What do we do on Sundays?

11am Morning Meeting – All Welcome

  • WHAT IS THE POINT?  Our aim is to honour God together by speaking to Him, singing to Him and, above all, listening to Him.
  • WHERE? DRBC – Main Church Hall
  • WHEN? Every Sunday 11am
  • WHAT CAN I EXPECT?  We will sing together to praise God; we will pray together to Him;  we will hear something read from the Bible; there will usually be a short talk especially for the children; there will be a Bible-based talk, known as a sermon.  (Examples of these sermons are available to download from this website.)  The children and Sunday School classes leave after about 30minutes. The whole gathering will last for about 75 minutes, and we encourage people to stay and have tea and biscuits with us afterwards.  This is your opportunity to ask questions, chat, and get to know each other.
  • WHO IS IT FOR?  The meeting is open to anyone and everyone is welcome to join us.  We try hard to include those who don’t usually come to church; those from overseas; those with children; those with special needs; those with disabilities.

During our morning meetings we run these groups:  Creche, Sunday School and Bible Class

Crèche

  • Agesbaby or child up to 6 years old
  • LeadersThis event has the following leaders:

If you have a baby or child up to 6 years old you will find you are not alone – there are a good number of little people at Derby Road! There is a creche available where you can take your child, or leave them with the leaders so that you can go back into the church and listen to the sermon (helpers will come and collect you if your baby/toddler does not settle).

There are games and books for the very young – otherwise all children listen to a Bible story, sing songs and do activity sheets which reinforce the Bible story. The children also have squash and fruit before ‘tidy up time’ and their return to parents.

Sunday School

  • Ageschildren age 7 to 11
  • LeadersThis event has the following leaders:
  • I am thankful to God that I am able to worship Him with the believers at Derby Road, who are a real family to me. It is amazing what the Lord Jesus has done for me in dying for my sins and giving himself up so that I can get to know him. In this church I feel I can learn more about what it is to serve God and to have God as the most important part of my life.

Sunday School is for children age 7 to 11. Children stay with their parents at the start of the main meeting as we worship God together. The leader will make it clear when children should go out to Sunday School.

Sunday School starts with everyone sat together to share about their week and pray. Then there is an interactive lesson based on a series from the Bible and an accompanying worksheet. The aim is to teach the children about what God says he is like in the Bible, and what he has accomplished through his son Jesus Christ.

Bible Class

  • Agesages 11+
  • LeadersThis event has the following leaders:
  • Sermons Preached by Felix Kamaliza

For children age 11+, we follow a course of Bible studies covering all the main people and events in the Old and New Testaments. This is done by reading the Bible together and discussing the passages using study guides to assist. Bible Class meets in the second half of the main Sunday service.

6pm Evening Meeting

  • WHERE? DRBC – Side Hall
  • WHEN? Every Sunday 6pm
  • WHAT CAN I EXPECT?  The evening meeting is similar to the morning in that we pray, sing, read the Bible and learn from it. The evening meeting is focussed on deepening our knowledge and application of the Bible to our lives. Therefore we sometimes have times of discussion, we regularly pray together for the needs of the church and our world, and we share The Lord’s Supper (Communion) together on the first Sunday of each month.

The Lord’s Supper (Communion)

  • WHERE? DRBC – Main Church Building
  • WHEN? We share the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of the month in the Evening Meeting, and on the third Sunday of the month at 9:45am before the morning meeting.
  • WHO FOR?  For all baptised believers in the church family, and for other visiting believers.
  • WHAT HAPPENS IN THE COMMUNION SERVICE?  We take bread and wine to acknowledge Christ’s death, as He commanded us to do. We also pray for one another as a church family.
